A task force was established in 2005 by the directors of the Society to update treatment guidelines that were developed in 2000. The guidelines are based on an extensive review of the clinical and research literature. Essays summarize the opinion of the literature on assessment and diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder, early interventions, and treating the chronic disorder. Then the recommendations are set out in brief form for clinicians.
