Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, , and is one of the largest Air Force Bases in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. . The base has five fire stations and 115 firefighters providing protection to homes, businesses, aircraft hangars, Air Force administration buildings and structures that house critical military research projects.

Celergy Networks designed an installed a comprehensive system providing enhanced communications between the base's central 911 emergency dispatch system and the widely distributed fire stations.

"Our old communications system was outdated, in disrepair and actually hampered our response time," said C.R. Eckroth, Edwards Air Force Base Fire Inspector and Logistics Officer. "Our base has very complex system needs, and critical information has to move instantaneously across our entire network. Celergy Networks worked closely with us to customize a system that can provide varying levels of emergency notification to one or more of the fire stations, depending on each situation. Celergy Networks was great to work with. The system has been in place for several months and we've seen a dramatic improvement in the flow of information and response times."

Celergy Networks president and COO Frank DeJoy said, "We are honored to be selected by Edwards Air Force Base and we are very proud of the improvements our network installation team was able to bring to the base's emergency response system."
