But in his later years--marked by a failing marriage, the departure of his sons for military service, and the onset of Parkinson's disease--Weston abandoned a strictly formalist approach. His photographs from the late '30s and '40s eschew objectifying distance in what Art Institute curator David Travis considers a quest for Verb 1. quest for - go in search of or hunt for; "pursue a hobby" quest after, go after, pursue look for, search, seek - try to locate or discover, or try to establish the existence of; "The police are searching for clues"; "They are searching for the deeper psychological engagement.
