Edward P. Jones claimed the 10th International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, the biggest prize in literature for a single work, in June.


Edward P. Jones Edward P. Jones is an African American author and winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. Born in 1951, he was raised in Washington, D.C. and educated at both the College of the Holy Cross and the University of Virginia.  claimed the 10th International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award The International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award is the largest and most international prize of its kind for a single work of fiction published in English.  chairman James B. Irwin presented Jones with his prize at a ceremony in City Hall for his first novel, The Known World (Amistad/HarperCollins, 2003). The award, an initiative of Dublin City Council Dublin City Council (Irish: Comhairle Cathrach Bhaile Átha Cliath) refers to two different entities.

Jones was the first United States winner of the award, Dublin City Council said. He will receive a prize of 100,000 euro (120,000 dollars). The book was previously awarded the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for fiction
    The Pulitzer Prize for Fiction has been awarded since 1948 for distinguished fiction by an American author, preferably dealing with American life. It replaced the Pulitzer Prize for the Novel.
