As New York City's Commissioner of Investigation from 1996 to 2002, he oversaw numerous high-profile financial fraud and corruption cases, including the recent multimillion dollar property tax scheme involving 18 City tax assessors, and the real estate bribery probe of a sitting City Councilman. He also instituted an extensive system of private-sector compliance monitors to ensure the integrity of Ground Zero recovery and cleanup operations following the September 11th tragedy.

Some of Mr. Kuriansky's investigations while at the Department of Investigation included: a $13 million tax fraud case in the Finance Department's Brooklyn City Collector's Office; a $250,000 embezzlement embezzlement, wrongful use, for one's own selfish ends, of the property of another when that property has been legally entrusted to one. Such an act was not larceny at common law because larceny was committed only when property was acquired by a "felonious taking," i.  scheme at the East Harlem Head Start Program; a $500,000 tax evasion scam involving the Commissioner of the Financial Information Services Agency and 100 City employees; an extortion and racketeering Traditionally, obtaining or extorting money illegally or carrying on illegal business activities, usually by Organized Crime . Prior to his work with the City Department of Investigation, Mr. Kuriansky was a partner at the Manhattan law firm of Kalkines, Arky, Zall & Bernstein LLP LLP - Lower Layer Protocol , where he headed the firm's practice in health care fraud and abuse, compliance and investigations.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Kuriansky served as New York State Deputy Attorney General and Special Prosecutor for Medicaid Fraud Control, overseeing a $24 million budget and 300 attorneys, auditors, investigators and other personnel. In this role he led the investigation and prosecution of some of the country's largest and most sophisticated Medicaid fraud cases, including the infamous $16 million Bed-Stuy Clinic case in which a father and two sons falsely billed the Medicaid program for hundreds of thousands of phantom patient visits over a seven-year period; the defendant was later apprehended as a fugitive after the case was profiled on TV's "Unsolved Mysteries." Mr. Kuriansky also personally handled the Federal Court proceedings that upheld the conviction of nursing home czar Bernard Bergman.

In honor of Mr. Kuriansky's work at the Special Prosecutor's Office, the New York State Bar Association The New York State Bar Association (NYSBA), with about 72,000 members, is the largest voluntary association of lawyers in the United States. The NYSBA was founded in Albany on November 21 1876.
