Edward Hopper Edward Hopper (July 22, 1882 – May 15, 1967) was an American painter and printmaker. His works represented light as it is reflected off of familiar objects. While most popularly known for his oil paintings, he was equally proficient as a watercolorist and printmaker in  is one of the country's best known painters: he based himself in New York City New York City: see New York, city.

 and depicted the city through the first half of the 20th century. While most of these portraits have appeared in more general Hopper art books, it's refreshing to see in print the first book devoted entirely to his New York paintings alone.
