(NYSE: CA), today announced that the Ontario Ministry of Education (OME) has standardized on ACCPAC's Simply Accounting(R) 6.0 for Windows software as a teaching tool in secondary school business courses. The agreement gives Ontario's schools access to all current versions and upgrades of Simply Accounting for the next two years.

Ontario's 800 secondary schools will be able to teach Simply Accounting 6.0 for Windows, the newest version of the popular small-office/home-office accounting program, in the Fall.

Educators first contracted with ACCPAC in the early 1990's to teach Simply Accounting. Teachers say they prefer the program's structure and superior audit trail, which adjusts entries without deleting the originals. Teachers also like its adherence to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and the wide range of teaching materials that accompany the program.

"Over the last two years, survey results from the Ontario Software Acquisition Program Advisory Committee generated the request for the upgrade of Simply Accounting," said John Taylor, education officer within the Ontario Ministry of Education and Training's Curriculum Learning and Teaching Branch.

The upgrade includes numerous new features, including Microsoft Office integration, Internet capabilities and enhanced ease-of-use. Integration with Microsoft Office allows students to instantly transform accounting data into reports and documents using Microsoft Word and Excel. New Internet capabilities enable users to email forms, such as purchase orders or invoices. With Simply Accounting 6.0, users can also track shipments via Web sites from couriers like FedEx and UPS. Simply Accounting 6.0 also provides direct Internet links to customers' and suppliers Web sites.

Simply Accounting 6.0 is the first generally available accounting software to support Revenue Canada's system for electronically filing corporate tax returns. In the fall of 1998, Revenue Canada will launch this new system, the General Index of Financial Information (GIFI).

"Version 6.0 is fantastic," said Don McAuley, head teacher of business at Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School in Bracebridge, Ontario. "In the upper grades, we set up companies and review every aspect of accounting. Simply Accounting handles it all. Now, with GIFI hooked in, we'll add that to the curriculum."

Simply Accounting 6.0 includes several fully integrated modules, including general ledger, purchasing, accounts payable and receivable, inventory control, payroll, and project costing. A new order entry module allows clients to enter orders, quotes, estimates, and accept credit card payments. Simply Accounting 6.0 runs on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 3.11 and Windows NT.

Simply Accounting 6.0 is available at most major computer retail stores for a suggested retail price in Canada of $179. Existing clients in Canada can obtain upgrades for $79 from ACCPAC.
