 123 licenses of SolidWorks software to the China Education Association of Mechanical Engineering (CEAME) in Shanghai Shanghai (shăng`hī`, shäng`hī`), city (1994 est. pop. 12,980,000), in, but independent of, Jiangsu prov., E China, on the Huangpu (Whangpoo) River where it flows into the Chang (Yangtze) estuary. , China. The CEAME oversees the educational and technical curriculum for 12 universities throughout Shanghai. This donation is the first of several academic initiatives that SolidWorks will implement in Asia over the next several months. A similar donation is planned for several universities in Beijing in Fall 2001. In addition to the software donation, SolidWorks is working with the CEAME to establish two new CAD training facilities located at the Shanghai University Shanghai University (University of Shanghai, SHU, 上海大学, 上大) is a public, comprehensive university located in Shanghai, China.

Shanghai University is one of the nation's leading research universities in Shanghai, China.
 of Science and Technology and the Shanghai Vocational Training Directive Center. Students from more than ten universities in Shanghai will have access to these CAD training centres. The goal of the training centres is to provide students with the CAD tools and training necessary to compete effectively in China's emerging industries and economy.
