Educational Leadership: Knowing the Way, Showing the Way, Going the Way is a four-part textbook written for K-12 administrators and those preparing the next generation of school leaders. It serves as the 2004 National Council of Professors of Educational Administration Yearbook.

The first part of the text is a collection of brief invited papers from the National Association of Elementary Principals, the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the University Council for Educational Administration on the topic of leadership preparation. The remaining three sections, edited by Carolyn S. Carr and Connie L. Fulmer, are a collection of manuscripts written by a number of contributing authors focusing on the themes of educational reform, best practices in preparing educational leaders and future directions for leadership preparation programs.

By and large the text is devoid of how-to writings dealing with the nuts and bolts of school administration. Several papers make the connection between research and practice and as such could be of use to superintendents in developing their own principal preparation programs.
