Students, parents to participate in sixth annual walk to school day

Don't be surprised to see students and parents walking rather than riding to school on Wednesday.

Four area elementary schools elementary school: see school.  will be part of the sixth annual International Walk to School Day. In Oregon, the number of participating schools jumped from 17 in 2001 to more than 40 this year.

 View School, Adams and Hillside elementary schools Hillside Elementary School is a now-closed public elementary school located in the hills section of Berkeley, California. It sits on the block bounded by Le Roy Avenue, Buena Vista Way and La Loma Avenue. Hillside is registered as a local historic landmark. , and Family and Patterson elementary schools will join the walkers in an effort to promote healthy lifestyles and pedestrian-friendly communities.

Career fair for junior high students will spotlight health care Oct. 11

Students will get an inside look at jobs in health care on Oct. 11, thanks to a career fair hosted by the University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. About 90 seventh-, eighth- and ninth-graders will meet doctors, researchers and other professionals to learn about careers in pharmacy, echocardiology, physical therapy, sports medicine sports medicine, branch of medicine concerned with physical fitness and with the treatment and prevention of injuries and other disorders related to sports. Knee, leg, back, and shoulder injuries; stiffness and pain in joints; tendinitis; "tennis elbow"; and , nursing and other options.

The event will include presentations and hands-on activities.

The fair runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 11 at Sacred Heart Medical Center and the UO campus. It's scheduled on a statewide teacher in-service day.
