Eugene district shuffles principals, administrators

Due to retirements and restructuring at the central office, several administrators will have new assignments next fall. Maurie Denner, principal at Washington Elementary School, will take a special, one-year assignment to help Washington and Willakenzie with the pending merge into the new northside elementary school in fall 2004. Jefferson Middle School's Paul Jorgensen will take a similar assignment with Patterson, Family and Westmoreland elementary schools, which will merge into the new southside school the same year.

Arbrella Luvert, principal at Adams and Hillside elementary schools, will take over at Jefferson. Anselmo Villanueva, the district's minority community liaison, will replace her.

Dennis Urso will continue half time as evaluations specialist, but will also be a half-time principal at Yujin Gakuen Elementary.

Stella Dadson, principal at Patterson and Family School, will be principal at Willagillespie Elementary.

Boys & Girls Club receives $5,000 after-school grant

The Boys & Girls Club of Emerald Valley will receive $5,000 from the JC Penney Afterschool Fund to implement an updated version of Power Hour, an interactive homework assistance program. The program, which targets children in grades 1 through 12, is based on the premise that youngsters need to view homework as an opportunity to work independently, complete successive projects and feel positive about their accomplishments. The Boys & Girls Club offers school-year and summer programs at Westmoreland Community Center and Cascade Middle School in the Bethel neighborhood. For information, call 345-9939.
