Thurston theater students qualify for auditions

Six students from Thurston High School's drama department qualified to audition for the state acting showcase at the Southern Regional Acting Competition held Feb. 1. Brett French, Rosie Doll and Erin Heflin qualified in group acting, Brenda Watson and Meghan Cummings qualified in duo acting, and Amber Gatti qualified in solo acting. The six will travel to Hermiston High School in April to audition for the showcase, which is held in conjunction with the Oregon State Thespians State Conference. American history essay writers win awards

The Oregon Lewis and Clark chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), a Colonial patriotic society in the United States, open to women having one or more ancestors who aided the cause of the Revolution. The society was organized (1890) at Washington, D.C.  honored winners in its American history essay contest on Feb. 8. In fifth grade, the winners, in descending order from first to fourth place, were Teija Sterns, Kendra Chambers, Camille Barkman and Camille Violet. The sixth-grade winners were Kale kale, borecole (bôr`kōl), and collards, common names for nonheading, hardy types of cabbage (var.  Tendrick, Kyra Schneider and Cody Farrell. Seventh-grade winners were Conor Teal, Nathan Violet, Kate Smith and Matthew Sink. Eighth-grade winners were Joan Van Hoy, Shaela Swezey, Jenny Novak and Nina Solecki.
