Educating Rita Educating Rita is an award-winning stage comedy by British playwright Willy Russell. It is a play for two actors set entirely in the office of a university lecturer.  (Columbia Pictures, 1983). In this breezy Willy Russell William Martin Russell (born 23 August 1947 in Whiston, Merseyside) is a British playwright, author, lyricist and composer. Life
Russell comes from a working class background.
 comedy--which might be retitled "Pygmalion Goes to College"--Julie Walters is cast as a hairdresser whose dissatisfaction with her working-class life leads her to enroll in the Open University.

There she encounters not Professor Henry Higgins, or even Mr. Chips, but Dr. Frank Bryant (Michael Caine), a boozy, divorced, middle-aged professor with enough self-pity to sink the Love Boat
