Labour Day Long Weekend, 2 to 4 October 2004. A very successful weekend was held with a number of excellent papers presented by members. All the papers in this issue were presented at the Conference although several papers are still to appear. The Geelong Military Re-enactment Group presented a display on North West Europe 1944 where re-enactors fitted out in authentic uniforms, webbing, and equipment operated period vehicles and fired small arms small arms, firearms designed primarily to be carried and fired by one person and, generally, held in the hands, as distinguished from heavy arms, or artillery. Congratulations to Nigel Home and his organising committee at Albury Wodonga and thanks to all at Albury -Wodonga who made it such a successful weekend.

MHSA Biennial Conference 2006

The first Biennial Conference and in fact the first Society meeting I ever attended was the 1982 Albury-Wodonga Biennial Conference. The 2004 conference was the third I have attended at Albury-Wodonga. In fact the only conference I have missed since 1982 was the 1996 South Australian Biennial Conference. So I am delighted that the South Australian Branch is organising the 2006 conference and I promise the convenor Tony Harris that this time I will try and not break a leg and actually get to Adelaide. OK it was a fracture but it still prevented me going and my airline ticket was forfeited and as well as losing my money I also got no frequent flyer frequent flyer Hospital practice A popular term for a Pt who is regularly admitted to a particular ER or health care facility, for various reasons  points. The first notice for the conference appears on page 4 and I urge all members register early.

The December issue mentioned that Sabretache articles are indexed by Australian Public Affairs Information Service (APAIS APAIS Australian Public Affairs Information Service ) that service is now known as Australian Public Affairs Full Text (APAFT APAFT Australian Public Affairs Full Text ). Most articles from 1996 plus several from 1994-1995 have been scanned. APAFT is a subscription service but is available through state, university and some public libraries. I have only just learnt that I can access APAFT via my local public library membership though its online service.

Sabretache

Unfortunately there is no Water Cart in this issue but "Joe Furphy A furphy, also commonly spelt furfie, is Australian slang for a rumour, or an erroneous or improbable story.

The word is derived from water carts made by a company established by John Furphy: J. Furphy & Sons of Shepparton, Victoria.
" assures me that he will be back in June.
