Editorial/Editorial.The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, abbreviated to CHOGM, is a biennial summit meeting of the heads of government from all Commonwealth nations. Every two years the meeting is held in a different member state, and is chaired by that nation's respective Prime (CHOGM CHOGM Commonwealth Heads Of Government Meeting ) and the Peoples' Commonwealth took place in Malta in December 2005. Democracy, human rights, good governance and fighting inequalities took centre stage then, and these issues still take our attention as we celebrate Commonwealth Day on March 13, 2006. This issue of FEMNET News analyses how healthy democracy is in the Commonwealth. We also take a look at democracy and human rights within the African Union. With respect to inequalities, addressing gender inequality in the information society was the focus of lobbying and advocacy by the Gender Caucus at the recently concluded World Summit on the Information Society The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) was a pair of United Nations-sponsored conferences about information, communication and, in broad terms, the information society that took place in 2003 in Geneva and in 2005 in Tunis. in Tunis, November 2005.
