Editor's Report.From January 1, 1999 through December 31, 1999, the Editorial Office received 287 new manuscript manuscript, a handwritten work as distinguished from printing. The oldest manuscripts, those found in Egyptian tombs, were written on papyrus; the earliest dates from c.3500 B.C. submissions. The following table lists the time in the editorial process for the 206 manuscripts submitted during 1999 for which the authors received a first decision by March 31, 2000. At their April 2000 meeting, the Board of Trustees of the Southern Economic Association appointed Professor Kevin Grier of the University of Oklahoma University of Oklahoma, abbreviated OU, is a coeducational public research university located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. Founded in 1890, it existed in Oklahoma Territory near Indian Territory 17 years before the two became the state of Oklahoma. and Professor Kent Kimbrough of Duke University to new terms See suggestions for new terms. as Co-Editors to run from July 1, 2001 through June 30, 2003. I appreciate their service and look forward to continuing to work with them. I would also like to thank Professor Kathy Hayes of Southern Methodist University Southern Methodist University, at Dallas, Tex.; United Methodist; coeducational; chartered 1911. The school's facilities include laboratories for electron microscopy and stable isotopes, a museum of paleontology, and a graduate research center. for her four and one-half years of dedicated service as Co-Editor, which will end on June 30, 2001. The Association's Annual Meeting in November in Washington, D.C. will have a new feature. The Association Lectures by prominent scholars will offer critical overviews of new research developments in different branches of economics. This year, Professor Donald Fullerton of the University of Texas will speak on environmental economics and Professor Kenneth Elzinga of the University of Virginia Virginia, state, United States Virginia, state of the south-central United States. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean (E), North Carolina and Tennessee (S), Kentucky and West Virginia (W), and Maryland and the District of Columbia (N and NE). will speak on teaching principles courses. We plan to feature versions of the Association Lectures in the Journal in forthcoming issues.
