To open the season, Brazil's rapidly changing institutional scene welcomes a new exhibiton program, in a converted casino, dedicated to the generation of artists that emerged during the '80s and '905. Designed by Oscar Niemeyer Oscar Ribeiro de Almeida Niemeyer Soares Filho (born December 15, 1907) is a Brazilian architect who is considered one of the most important names in international modern architecture. He was a pioneer in the exploration of the constructive possibilities of reinforced concrete.  and distinguished by "lavish interiors in mirror, aluminum columns and marble floors," the host venue is elegantly situated on Pampulha Lake in Belo Horizonte Belo Horizonte (bəl'rēzôN`tĭ) [Port.,=beautiful horizon], city (1996 pop. 2,091,770), capital of Minas Gerais state, E Brazil.  (once home to Lygia Clark Lygia Clark (1920 – 1988) was a Brazilian artist best known for her painting and installation work. She was often associated with the Brazilian Constructivist movements of the mid-20th century and the Tropicalia movement. ). The program's inaugural exhibition, organized by independent curator Adriano Pedrosa, surveys twelve years of work by Edgard de Souza De Souza or D'Souza is a common Portuguese family name. Although it is still quite common outside Portugal -- especially in Brazil and India --, Souza is the old spelling of present-day Sousa. , whose intricate, suggestive forms should provide a fascinating match for the architect's sensual modernism.
