Eddie Bauer nears 5 million mark. (Clippings).


Specialty retailer Eddie Bauer Eddie Bauer (NASDAQ: EBHI) is a clothing store chain. Headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, and a subsidiary of Eddie Bauer Holdings (formerly Spiegel, Inc.), the company was founded in Seattle in 1920 as "Eddie Bauer's Sport Shop" by its namesake, Eddie Bauer (1899 –  is closing in on its goal of planting 5 million trees through Global ReLeaf. Since 1995 the company's "Add a dollar, Plant a tree" program has planted more than 4.5 million trees in close to 100 projects over 25 states and four Canadian provinces. The "Add a dollar, Plant a tree" program allows customers to add one dollar to their store, catalog, or online purchases, thereby planting one tree in a Global ReLeaf ecosystem restoration Humans depend greatly on ecosystem services. These services vary greatly and include such things as erosion control, water and air purification, food, recreation, a list that could go on endlessly.  project.

Among the Global ReLeaf projects sponsored by Eddie Bauer this year are:

* a multi-year effort to plant 100,000 trees in the Mountains to Sound Greenway in Washington state. The greenway will link urban and rural lands along I-90 from Seattle up and over the Cascade Mountains. The project will preserve sensitive salmon habitat and diversify tree cover.

* the planting of 280,000 Atlantic white cedar white cedar

In the lumber trade, the American arborvitae, some species of false cypress (genus Chamaecyparis) and McNab cypress, incense cedar (Calocedrus decurrens), and California juniper, all in the cypress family.
, cypress, oak, and tupelo to reforest a 1,800-acre tract in Virginia's Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge The Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge was created in 1974 to help protect and preserve a portion of the Great Dismal Swamp, a marshy region on the Coastal Plain of southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina between Norfolk, Virginia, and Elizabeth City, North . Sprawl is encroaching on the area surrounding the refuge and site restoration is crucial for the long-term viability of black bear, endangered southeastern short-tailed shrew shrew, common name for the small, insectivorous mammals of the family Soricidae, related to the moles. Shrews include the smallest mammals; the smallest shrews are under 2 in. (5.1 cm) long, excluding the tail, and the largest are about 6 in. (15 cm) long. , and other wildlife populations.

* the planting of 50,000 trees near Sudhury, Ontario to restore a landscape severely damaged by industrial pollution. The trees are among hundreds of thousands the retailer has planted in Canada since beginning its partnership with Global ReLeaf.
