More than 1,100 healthcare professionals attended the four-day educational and networking event, held Oct. 28-31 in Orlando, Fla. The conference represented the first time that representatives of all of Eclipsys' current and heritage products and services came together for a joint educational experience.

The EUN Awards Banquet was one of the major highlights of the event, which also included more than 100 customer-led educational sessions, training classes provided by Eclipsys, and noted speakers such as Doris Kearns Goodwin Doris Kearns Goodwin (born January 4, 1943) is an award-winning author and historian. She won the Pulitzer Prize in 1995, but her reputation was later damaged by her admission of plagiarism. , presidential historian and author. The conference's physician track, focusing on how direct physician use of advanced information systems improves patient safety and overall care delivery, included presentations by such industry leaders as David W. Bates Bates   , Katherine Lee 1859-1929.

Another EUN Conference highlight was Eclipsys' unveiling of the latest version of the proven functionality of Eclipsys' Sunrise(TM) product suite, called SunriseXA(TM). The first components of the open, modular, Web-based SunriseXA are slated to be available in early 2002, Wilson announced during the EUN opening ceremonies.

The Stellar Awards The Chicago-based Central City Productions, Inc. (CCP) produces the Stellar Gospel Music Awards. It has been 20 years since the first awards show was taped at the Arie Crown Theater in Chicago.  

Stellar Awards, judged by a panel of users' peers, were presented in four categories -- Customer-Satisfaction Attainment, Performance Improvement, Outcomes Achievement, and Physician Achievement. Nominees for each award provided information concerning the challenge or issue the organization sought to address; the solution identified; the process taken to implement the solution; the Eclipsys solutions utilized and their role in the process; and the results or outcomes achieved.

Customer-Satisfaction Attainment: The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is one of the largest and oldest children's hospitals in the world. "CHOP" has been ranked as the best children's hospital in the United States by U.S. News & World Report and Child Magazine in recent years.  

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, a long-time user of the company's heritage Eclipsys 7000 clinical information system, implemented a new Web-based method for physician discharge noting. This has enabled the discharge note to evolve into a multi-disciplinary tool for home care and family/patient education. A related report has also improved efficiency of daily rounds and communication between residents and staff regarding aspects of patient care. Children's Hospital A children's hospital is a hospital which offers its services exclusively to children. The number of children's hospitals proliferated in the 20th century, as pediatric medical and surgical specialties separated from internal medicine and adult surgical specialties.  recently announced that it has contracted with Eclipsys to evolve to the company's Sunrise Clinical Manager solution.

Performance Improvement: Covenant Health Care

Covenant Health Care, Saginaw, MI, received the award for Performance Improvement for achievement of an ambitious two-month project to dramatically expand utilization of Sunrise Decision Support Manager's management decision-support capabilities throughout a group of more than 150 leaders in its organization to achieve improved operational efficiencies. Support was provided by Eclipsys' Business Solutions Group.

This year, the health system won for linking the clinical system to auto-paging capabilities that immediately notified respiratory therapists when "STAT" or "now" orders were entered, thus speeding the delivery of care and improving staff efficiency. The auto-paging capability is being rolled out to other departments as well.

Physician Achievement: Abington Memorial Hospital

To reduce the potential for adverse medical events (AMEs), this Abington, PA-based community hospital achieved universal physician order entry in a project spanning less than one year. Abington currently uses the Eclipsys 7000 but is moving to Sunrise Clinical Manager and other Eclipsys solutions as a founding member of the company's Balanced Outcomes Partner Program.

Teamwork: Sarasota Memorial Health Care System

Sarasota, FL's preeminent healthcare provider received the VIP Award for Teamwork due to its ongoing leadership role in working with Eclipsys as a Sunrise Clinical Manager development partner and early adopter, as well as for its use of other Eclipsys solutions such as Decision Support Manager.

Unique Role: Methodist Health Care System
