Eclipse Aviation Eclipse Aviation Corporation is an Albuquerque, New Mexico based manufacturer of the Eclipse 500 and Eclipse ECJ very light jets (VLJs). Founded in 1998 by former Microsoft employee Vern Raburn, the company employs about 1,300, which is more than twice the number from only a few (tm) today announced a new Extended Range option for the Eclipse 500(tm) jet.

This announcement is yet another milestone in Eclipse Aviation's progressive vision for modern, affordable jet aircraft.

The Extended Range option features two removable tip tanks. The tanks increase the maximum range of the Eclipse 500 from 1,600 nm to 1,825 nm. All Eclipse 500 aircraft will be equipped with provisions for attaching the tip tanks, which can be easily added or removed by a certified aircraft mechanic.

The maximum cruise speed for the Eclipse 500 with the Extended Range option is 345 kts, the take-off distance 2,400 feet, and the empty weight is just 2,770 lbs. Pricing for the Extended Range option has not been announced. Availability is projected for Q1, 2004.

Full-size and fuselage mock-ups of the Eclipse 500 jet are available for viewing July 26 through Aug. 1, 2000, at the EAA AirVenture 2000. Eclipse Aviation's exhibit tent is located just southwest of AeroShell An aeroshell is a rigid heat shielded shell that protects an entry vehicle during space travel and from atmospheric drag during landing. The heat shield also serves to slow the craft during atmospheric entry.  Square (formerly known as the West Ramp).
