Echelon International Corporation of St. Petersburg, Florida, announced that its corporate headquarters, Castille at Carillon, in the Carillon Office Park in St. Petersburg was recognized as an "Outstanding Office Building" at the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties "Best of the Best" Awards competition for the Tampa Bay area. The award recognized Castille at Carillon for its distinctive design that provides an urban feel in a suburban office environment.

CallSource[TM] has entered into an agreement to provide a series of live, interactive TeleTraining seminars to members of the Chicagoland Apartment Association (CAA). The "CAALive!" TeleTraining programs offer sessions twice a month for association members and invited guests. The hour-long, "CAALive!" sessions feature prominent speakers and educators on a series of topics, including fair housing compliance, leasing, sales, and marketing. CallSource and CAA will promote the sessions jointly. The series is scheduled to run through 2000.

Lee Wasserman of the LEW Corporation and Gary Rosen, CPA, of Wilkin & Guttenplan, P.C., were presented with the 1999 President's Awards at the New Jersey Apartment Association's (NJAA) annual meeting at the Clarion Towers in Edison, New Jersey. Additional awards were presented to: Lisa East of The Apartment Source in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, New-comer of the Year; Joseph Collins of CALECO in West Chester, Pennsylvania, Continuous Service/Longevity Award; and Chris O'Connor of For Rent Magazine, Industry Partner Award.

Maytag of Newton, Iowa, named Carole J. Uhrich, to the newly created position of executive vice president and president, Maytag Home Solutions, effective January 1, 2000. The Home Solutions group is a $3.5 billion business with 17,500 employees and is composed of the corporation's major appliance and floor care divisions, including Maytag, Jenn-Air, and Hoover brands.

JPI communities Jefferson at College Park and Jefferson at Pin Oak were recent recipients of the 1999 Awards for Excellence in the Apartment Industry sponsored by DELTA Associates and Transwestern Carey Winston. Jefferson at College Park is a 300unit community in College Park, Maryland, and Jefferson at Pin Oak is a 348-unit community in Bowie, Maryland. The Apartment Industry Awards for Excellence recognize those who have reached milestones in the apartment industry. Judging is based on statistical data and subjective judgments.

Done Deals

MoveCentral.com, a Boston-based provider of online and off-line moving-related services to customers of its corporate clients, announced it has entered into a partnership agreement with MoveSource.com, a St. Claire Shores, Michigan-based Internet company that provides move-management services. Under this agreement, MoveSource.com and MoveCentral. com will offer consumers easy links to each other's information, services, and discounts.

Colonial Pointe Apartments Limited Partnership recently sold the 248-unit, Colonial Pointe Apartments of Orlando, Florida, for $10.2 million, or $41,129 per unit to EPD Associates, LTD, of Morristown, New Jersey. The new owner plans many upgrades to the property.

The Value Group Inc., of Clifton, New Jersey, recently purchased Park Lake, a 168-unit apartment community in Bedford, Texas. The Park Lake Apartments are part of a portfolio of more than 17 garden apartment communities, shopping centers, and office buildings that The Value Group and its affiliates own and manage in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas.

Overlook, a 252-unit property in the Frayser submarket of Memphis, Tennessee, was recently sold to Overlook Apartments, LLC, for $1.975 million or $7,837 per unit. The seller was Overlook Associates, LTD.

LandSouth, a Macon, Georgia-based multifamily developer, recently purchased Bentley Place, an apartment development in DeKalb County, Georgia, for $8.1 million from Atlanta-based Roberts Properties. The five-building community will be renovated and converted into condominiums.

Trend Talk

Developer John M. Corcoran & Co., of Milton, Massachusetts, recently launched construction of Cliffside Commons, a $41 million, five-story, 295-unit luxury apartment community located in Malden, Massachusetts. Corcoran purchased site, which is more than eight acres, from Star Markets Inc., in February 1999 for $5.4 million. Before beginning construction, Corcoran demolished the existing structure.

The Morgan Group, Inc. (MGI), a Houston, Texas-based luxury apartment developer, is continuing its national expansion with the opening of a regional office in Atlanta, Georgia. MGI's new Southeastern hub, led by real estate developer Charles W. "Bill" Brown III, Regional Vice President-Development, will develop upscale multifamily communities throughout Georgia, Florida, and the Carolinas.

REIT Report

Charles E. Smith Residential Realty, Inc.., of Arlington, Virginia, announced the acquisition of a 1,339-unit, five-building, high-rise apartment community in the South Beach section of Miami Beach, Florida, for $85 million. Smith Residential will reposition the property through $15 to $25 million of renovations commencing this spring.

Mid-America Apartment Communities of Memphis, Tennessee, announced the sale of its 798-unit, Sailwinds at Lake Magdalene community in Tampa, Florida, for $31.1 million. The community was recently named one of Florida's 10 best apartment communities.

WMF Robert C. Wilson, part of The WMF Group, arranged for financing and equity for $13 million for the construction of Campus Park Apartments in Denton, Texas, near North Texas State University. The construction loan was for $9.5 million.
