Eaton Announces Successful Integration and Testing of Phenom 100 Very Light Jet Electronically Synchronized Flap Actuation System.

IRVINE, Calif. -- Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation's aerospace business has achieved a technology milestone with the assembly, powering-up and testing of the first electronically synchronized flap actuator A mechanism that causes a device to be turned on or off, adjusted or moved. The motor and mechanism that moves the head assembly on a disk drive or an arm of a robot is called an actuator. Traditional mechanical flap systems feature flexible metal shafts connected between each of the flap or slat actuators mounted in the aircraft wing, all driven by a central power drive unit. The Embraer Phenom 100 system utilizes a brushless DC motor integrated directly within each actuator assembly. System synchronization (1) See synchronous and synchronous transmission.

This article describes general aspects of electrical wiring as used to provide power in buildings and structures, commonly referred to as building wiring. . Eaton is helping to develop this technology to advance the "state of the art" in flap systems for VLJs that reduce system weight, increase reliability and improve overall performance.

Development testing of the flap actuation system will continue through December 2006. Safety-of-Flight testing is scheduled to begin in January 2007.
