) announced today its plans as the presenting sponsor of the 2002 Woodward Dream Cruise The Woodward Dream Cruise is a classic car festival held annually on the third Saturday of August. The festival spans much of Woodward Avenue from Pontiac through Ferndale in Oakland County, Michigan, all the way to the State Fair Grounds inside the Detroit city limits, just south , to be held Saturday, August 17. Eaton has been the major sponsor of this event, billed as the largest one-day automotive event in the world, since 1999.

As the presenting sponsor of the event again this year, Eaton has a special display planned that will include a look back at the company's evolution with the automobile, for its guests at Pioneer Park located in the heart of the cruise route on Woodward Avenue, in Royal Oak, Michigan Royal Oak is a city in Oakland County of the U.S. state of Michigan. It is a suburb of Detroit. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 60,062. It should not be confused with Royal Oak Charter Township, a separate community located nearby. . Last year, Eaton hosted nearly 1,500 key customers, employees and media for a day filled with "cruisin'" fun.

Stephen M. Buente, senior vice president and group executive-Automotive, said "Eaton is thrilled to be the presenting sponsor for this exciting celebration of the automotive industry's past. Eaton has been a key supplier to the industry for almost 90 years and this event gives us an opportunity to celebrate the history of the automobile Vehicles that can be considered automobiles were demonstrated as early as 1769, although that date is disputed, and 1885 marked the introduction of gasoline powered internal combustion engines.  -- something we're all passionate about at Eaton."

The 2001 cruise saw more than 1.4 million enthusiasts viewing over 45,000 classic vehicles along the 16-mile stretch of Woodward Avenue. The event is held each summer to celebrate a unique piece of the automotive industry's heritage.

Eaton products, including market-leading valvetrains, superchargers and traction-modifying differentials, enhance many of the vehicles to be seen on Woodward this year. The company's products have been a staple in the automotive market and will continue to drive innovation through air management, powertrain controls and safety and security systems for years to come.

The cruise runs along a 16-mile stretch of Woodward Avenue, the famous Detroit boulevard where the first car in North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere.  was driven in 1896, and where "cruisers" showcased their cars in the `50s and `60s. The event runs through the communities of Ferndale, Pleasant Ridge, Huntington Woods, Berkley, Royal Oak, Birmingham and Pontiac.
