Eastman professor honored with Anthony Achievement Award.


MTNA member Jean Barr, professor of piano accompanying and chamber music at the Eastman School of Music Eastman School of Music: see Rochester, Univ. of. , has received the Susan B. Anthony Lifetime Achievement Award.

This award is presented annually to a University of Rochester The University of Rochester (UR) is a private, coeducational and nonsectarian research university located in Rochester, New York. The university is one of 62 elected members of the Association of American Universities.  alumna, trustee, faculty member or administrator who has demonstrated strong leadership qualities, personal, as well as professional success, and has served as a role model for other women.

This award was established in 1997 by the Anthony Center for Women's Leadership at the University.

In the past decade, Barr has organized chamber music concerts for MTNA national conferences and was instrumental in the creation of MTNA's Collaborative Performance Committee, acting as its first chair.

Barr has taught and lectured throughout North America, Europe and Asia and has performed with many distinguished artists.

Prior to joining the Eastman faculty in 1988, Barr taught at the University of Southern California The U.S. News & World Report ranked USC 27th among all universities in the United States in its 2008 ranking of "America's Best Colleges", also designating it as one of the "most selective universities" for admitting 8,634 of the almost 34,000 who applied for freshman admission , The University of Texas at Austin “University of Texas” redirects here.
