has had a banner year, punctuated by an innovative and successful Performathon!

The 2005 fall conference was held November 18-19 with guest artists including Jerome Lowenthal of The Julliard School, flutist Jayn Rosenfeld and Marvin Blickenstaff.

The number of students and teachers involved in the Spring Auditions/Recitals and Piano Festival showed that these programs continue to attract the membership.

The NJMTA NJMTA New Jersey Music Teachers Association  Children Helping Children Performathon was a noncompetitive music experience for students of all ages and levels of advancement. More than 200 musicians from across the state came together to raise in excess of $11,000 for the Child Life Program at Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital.

On February 4-5, 2006, NJMTA students and teachers presented nine different recitals free and open to the public at Westminster Choir College -- Westminster Choir College is a residential college of music located in Princeton, New Jersey, United States.

Westminster has a choral emphasis that educates men and women at the undergraduate and graduate levels for music leadership careers in churches, schools,

). Performers collected donations for the Child Life Program and additional contributions were accepted at each program.

Last January, the Young Artist and Young Musicians Programs at WCC dedicated two recitals to this beneficiary. In addition, NJMTA member Veda Zuponcic directed the Shostakovich-Mozart Festival at Rowan University and dedicated its proceeds to the Performathon.

The response was overwhelming--both music and generosity blended to celebrate artistry and community spirit, and NJMTA is already busy planning next year's Performathon. The success of the Performathon was due in large part to Patricia Landy, Arts Advocacy chair of NJMTA and the Performathon coordinator.
