Connecticut Music Teachers Association (CMTA) has an exciting new competition for collegiate-age pianists living and studying full time in Connecticut. Winners perform with the Hartford Symphony in a regular subscription concert series. Fabio Witkowski, student of Luiz de Moura Castro, performed in December, and Sae Hee Kim, student of Paul Rutman, will perform in May. In addition, the top three winners perform recitals at numerous sites statewide.

Also, CMTA members presented works for piano, flute and clarinet in a member/teacher recital last September at the Museum of Modern American Art in New Britain.

Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association (PMTA) held a junior high and high school Chamber Music Competition in conjunction with its state convention and MTNA competitions at Millersville University in November. First- and second-place awards were provided by Jacobs Music of greater Philadelphia. Over 650 students were registered for the convention's Dorothy Sutton Performance Festival. Students, who pre-audition at the local level, participate in showcase recitals and workshops offered by convention presenters.

At the Quad State Convention, October 19-20, 2001, Vermont Music Teachers Association (VMTA) recognized Sylvia Parker, NCTM, for serving twenty years as a VMTA officer. Sylvia served in various positions multiple times, including three terms as state president.
