Eastern Division.

In this month's column we hear from Delaware President Jacqueline Faulcon:

The Peace Piano Perform-a-thon at the Kimmel Center was superb. The nine studios, ten teachers and their twenty-one students performed and raised more than $3,400 for UNICEF UNICEF (y`nĭsĕf'), the United Nations Children's Fund, an affiliated agency of the United Nations. .

and Southern Delaware MTA celebrated their first student recital programs on October 24. Special congratulations to Helen "To Helen" is the first of two poems to carry that name written by Edgar Allan Poe. The 15-line poem was written in honor of Jane Stanard, the mother of a childhood friend. It was first published in 1831 collection Poems of Edgar A.  Hales Hoffmann and Lillian Schaube for their wonderful program planning. Kudos to Diane Otey, NCMTA president, and Joan Craft, SDMTA SDMTA South Dakota Music Teachers Association  president.

convention was held at The Wilmington Music School November 6. Lisa Papili, president-elect, organized the program, which included David Brown's presentation "Beethoven and Liszt Connection." A question-and-answer period ended the session. A luncheon followed, spiked with the culinary artistry of our president-elect, who also led the discussion "Why Practice?"

The next speaker was Mitzie DeWhitt, whose new book Aristoxenus' Ghost is a tribute to the musical-scientific-spiritual mind. We truly are indebted to DeWhitt for the depth of her research.

The winners' recital was the final event of the exciting day. Students and teachers are to be complimented and praised, with special accolades to Paula Gardiner, NCTM NCTM National Council of Teachers of Mathematics
NCTM Nationally Certified Teacher of Music
NCTM North Carolina Transportation Museum
NCTM National Capital Trolley Museum

, for organizing this event.

On a final note, Jacqueline and Clarence Faulcon have been performing for the residents at Cokesbury once a month.
