East infection: Osiris East Cost tour.

THE OSIRIS Osiris (ōsī`rĭs), in Egyptian religion, legendary ruler of predynastic Egypt and god of the underworld. He was the son of the sky goddess Nut and the earth god Geb.  TEAM up a pretty good chunk of the East Coast on their three-week tour from New Hampshire New Hampshire, one of the New England states of the NE United States. It is bordered by Massachusetts (S), Vermont, with the Connecticut R. forming the boundary (W), the Canadian province of Quebec (NW), and Maine and a short strip of the Atlantic Ocean (E).  to Florida, with temperatures hiking the thermometer up the entire trip into the 100-degrees-plus range. The team went as Caswell Berry, Robert Lopez-Mont, John Rattray Scotland based John Rattray skates anything and everything. Whether it is an old stair set to a backyard pool, John skates it all. Born and raised in Aberdeen Scotland, he never had the best skate spots. , Garrett Hill, James Brockman, Gailea Momolu, Clint Peterson, and Shuriken Shuriken (手裏剣; lit: "hand hidden blade") is a traditional Japanese concealed weapon that was generally used for throwing, and sometimes stabbing or slashing an opponent's arteries.  Shannon. The basic plan was to skate as many spots as possible while taking care of shop signings, demos, and fun along the way. The last Osiris trip I went on was the Aftermath tour several years back which had way too many people on it and it lasted well over a month. This trip was about straight-up skateboarding with a tight crew.

BOSTON

I HOPPED ON the trip in Boston after the team's first demo in New Hampshire. Friday night I came out of a bar in Boston and I unexpectedly bumped into Clint and Rattray. We ended up at an after party at one of the Dropkick Murphy's member's house. Perfect beginning of a trip.

Boston isn't the easiest place to give directions, considering the city was laid out when riding horses was the primary mode of transportation. The crew was staying about mile from where I stayed the following morning. Two hours later they couldn't manage to pick me up so I had to take a taxi to meet them--about a block from where they ran into me outside the bar the night before.

So you know, Rattray and Clint are karaoke machines. Rattray took down "Come on Eileen" by Dexy's Midnight Runner Midnight Runner is a novel by Jack Higgins published in 2002.

NYC New York City
. Let's begin by saying NYC is not the easiest place to go skating, especially with a large crew. And being a photographer these days, skating around with all your crap sucks. We were there for five days, and driving around in the van trying to find spots is frustrating--dealing with parking, traffic, random dudes showing you spots--but it's also a great city for partying 'til 4:00 am (which definitely puts a damper on skating the next day. But that's how things go on a skate trip). Aside from the party factor, there is so much shit to do in NYC like going to museums and sightseeing. While driving to find the infamous Brooklyn Banks, we spotted Rodney Torres skating down the street. We threw him in the van and he saved us from our endless spot search, so we got a good session in before the rain came.

One night we were at Max Fish, and when it was time to get out of there I decided to walk back to the hotel, which was about 90 blocks away. I hate taking cabs sometimes, and walking is always good. Rattray and Brockman didn't want me to go alone so they joined me. We figured it would take about an hour so we began the walk. Three hours later we're back at the hotel. Now I understand what they mean by "New York blocks."

NEW JERSEY

DIRTY JERSEY IS what it's referred to by anybody who doesn't live there. We ended up out by the beaches and away from the city. The only thing that I vaguely remember about Jersey was good pizza, and shooting paintballs with a sling shot at some abandoned building where Clint was skating. It was covered with pink paintballs when the cops came and kicked us out. I thought for sure we'd get busted, but somehow the cop didn't see the mess. I'm surprised we never got in trouble for the slingshots and paintballs, because James Brockman was hitting anything and everything with them: cars, us skating, seagulls...

VIRGINIA BEACH Virginia Beach, resort city (1990 pop. 393,069), independent and in no county, SE Va., on the Atlantic coast; inc. 1906. In 1963, Princess Anne co. and the former small town of Virginia Beach were merged, giving the present city an area of 302 sq mi (782 sq km).

WE HAD AN EIGHT-HOUR DRIVE to Virginia Beach. My van was the party van--Caswell, James Brockman, Robert Lopez-Mont, Shuriken, Marius, Cuang the team manager, and the filmer Russell. I met Robert a few years ago, and he could barely speak English. The only thing that sucks about long drives and having Robert and Caswell together is that piss bottles litter the van. The team had a demo at the new Mount Trashmore Mount Trashmore Park, also known simply as Mount Trashmore, is a city park located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Mount Trashmore is an example of landfill reuse as its creation consisted of the conversion of an abandoned landfill into a park.  skatepark, which is different than the one that Lance and Cab skated in the Powell video and where the old vert contests were held. The new park has a street course, a wooden bowl, and also a vert ramp A vert ramp is a form of half-pipe used in "extreme sports" such as skateboarding.

Another form of half-pipe is the mini ramp.

, but the scene has changed. Come to find out, we had to wear helmets to skate for the demo. Why does that have to happen? Berard's skateshop Cardinal is about a mile away, so we went there and bought up all his helmets. Skating a demo with helmets sucks, and the park goon was just that--a complete goon. Quick demo, threw out some product, signed some autographs, and the kids were psyched. As I'm writing this story I hear someone burned down the whole skatepark on August 16th. Does that mean they'll build a concrete one now?

Kyle Berard took us to his friend Trey Winslow's house, who's got a giant wooden skate structure just outside of Virginia Beach. We figured the whole crew would be psyched to skate some tranny and take a break from driving around looking for Looking for

street spots. When we pulled up, everyone was like, "What the fuck?" This place was insane; a giant bowl with pool coping, hips, corners, and a wooden cradle all in the backyard. Everyone jumped in there and had a blast--then Trey came out of the woods with his fishing pole, grabbed his board, and tore his ramp a new one. If you see this guy skate, he rips--the crew was in awe.

ATLANTA

HOTLANTA WAS COMING in caliente at 100-plus degrees. This trip was my first time there, and it's a fun city. All I kept hearing was "You have to go to the Claremont Lounge," so we did. I guess GG Allin recorded live there years back.

FLORIDA

FLORIDA MARKED THE END of the trip, with the last demo at the Skatepark of Tampa Skatepark of Tampa is a world-famous skatepark in Tampa, Florida, USA. The name is often abbreviated as SPoT. It is well-known for its annual Tampa Am and Tampa Pro competitions.  on July 4th. They know how to hook up a proper demo. It was southern hospitality at its finest. The demo ripped, and we ended up skating a lot longer after it was over. When darkness set in, the explosives started off. There was a crew in the parking lot having firework wars, while inside the gates were more firework battles. Bottle rockets were flying all around--sketchy. I thought the vert ramp was going to catch on fire. I've never seen a product toss where kids are fighting for boards and T-shirts, and getting shot at with firecrackers and roman candles. Surprising, nobody got their eye poked out.
