East Central Division. (Division News).The East Central Division competitions and meetings were held at Michigan State University Michigan State University, at East Lansing; land-grant and state supported; coeducational; chartered 1855. It opened in 1857 as Michigan Agricultural College, the first state agricultural college. in East Lansing in January. (MMTA MMTA MultiMedia Telecommunications Association MMTA Minor Metals Trade Association MMTA Missouri Music Teachers Association MMTA Minnesota Music Teachers Association MMTA Massachusetts Music Teachers Association MMTA Michigan Music Teacher's Association ) is growing with the addition of the North Central chapter, located in Gaylord, and the Grand Valley State University collegiate chapter in Allendale. These additions bring the total number of local associations to twenty-one and the collegiate chapters to eleven. Plans already are underway for two more new local associations. MMTA is very proud of six of its members. Joanne Smith, nationally recognized piano pedagogue and past president of MMTA, has been selected as MTNA's Teacher of the Year. Natalie Matovinovic of Ann Arbor has been honored as an MTNA MTNA Music Teachers National Association MTNA Middle Tennessee Nursery Association (McMinnville, Tennessee) FOUNDATION Fellow. Eileen Keel of Lansing, also an MMTA past president, is the incoming East Central Division president. Jill Christian, NCTM NCTM National Council of Teachers of Mathematics NCTM Nationally Certified Teacher of Music NCTM North Carolina Transportation Museum NCTM National Capital Trolley Museum NCTM Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage , of Kalamazoo, another past president of MMTA, was the recipient of the state's Distinguished Service Award for her many contributions at the state level. Finally, Jerome and Betty Kowalsky Stasson, NCTM, of West Bloomfield are greatly appreciated for their diligence bringing about legislation making Michigan the only state to have zoning protection for in-home educational professionals.
