(ISMTA ISMTA Illinois State Music Teachers Association ) has a newly designed website, www.ismta.org, which has some key functionalities popular on many association websites, for example, a discussion board, PDF (Portable Document Format) The de facto standard for document publishing from Adobe. On the Web, there are countless brochures, data sheets, white papers and technical manuals in the PDF format.  forms and newsletters. PDF newsletters should save local and state associations a great deal in publishing and mailing costs. Illinois has posted some key forms for its state competitions and syllabus exams, as well as its newsletter.

ISMTA's discussion board is robust and user-friendly. This tool offers great possibilities for the governing board and officers to conduct discussions between face-to-face meetings. You may recall that MTNA MTNA Music Teachers National Association
MTNA Middle Tennessee Nursery Association (McMinnville, Tennessee)
launched its own discussion board this spring to facilitate discussion among and between various constituencies.

Take a moment to visit ISMTA's website the next time you are surfing. I think you'll find interesting ideas in both design and content that may give you ideas for your own state, local or studio website. And, please, feel free to borrow. As they say: imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. You may contact any of the associations featured in this and future ECD columns for further information. I'm sure each would be happy to discuss their process, work, successes and challenges.

, ISMTA president; Mary Hays, ISMTA staff; and Marion Morris of Gravity Squared Media for your hard work on this great site. We look forward to seeing this site develop over the coming years. Great job Illinois!
