Easier TBI Background Checks Now Available Online at http://www.Tennessee.gov.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Obtaining a background check in Tennessee just got easier, thanks to an enhancement to the State's very successful online system that is available through http://www.Tennessee.gov. In June of 2004, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) launched the user-friendly Tennessee Open Records Information System (TORIS), which has already processed more than 110,000 background checks. In November 2007, a credit card payment option was added to give citizens and businesses a more convenient payment method.

Many people and businesses take advantage of background checks. Typical user groups include employers, landlords, private security firms, and child care providers. The service has also been useful for house cleaning services, moving companies, and a wide range of businesses operating in the State.

TBI serves as the official central repository for criminal information in the State of Tennessee and maintains a thorough vetting process to ensure its data is accurate and complete. Anyone can use the TORIS system to obtain information on arrests that occur in Tennessee. Unlike other background check services, a subject's permission is not needed to run a search through the TBI's online system.

The Tennessee Open Records Information System credit card payment option is maintained through a partnership between the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and NIC (Nasdaq: EGOV), the State of Tennessee's eGovernment provider.
