The Earth Charter, among other things, asks us to do the following: adopt "sustainable plans and regulations" (which would include population control by contraception and abortion); "ensure universal access to health care that fosters reproductive health and responsible reproduction" (i.e. abortion); "eliminate discrimination in all its forms, such as that based on race and sexual orientation sexual orientation n. The direction of one's sexual interest toward members of the same, opposite, or both sexes, especially a direction seen to be dictated by physiologic rather than sociologic forces. The Charter ends by calling on the United Nations to support its principles with an "internationally legally binding instrument on environment and development." The Charter was drafted in coordination with a hard law treaty designed to provide a legal framework for all environmental law and policy. This treaty is called the International Covenant on Environment and Development, and is being prepared by the Commission on Environmental Law at the International Union for the Conservation of Nature International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) or World Conservation Union, international organization founded in 1948 to encourage the preservation of wildlife, natural environments, and living resources.
