Eagle flies in Neat. (Digest).
The North European Aerospace Test range (Neat) in Northwest Sweden
consists of two individual air restriction areas of more than 5000 sq/km
each that can be temporarily linked together to form a 360 by 100 km
path for testing and operations. Primarily used for testing, training
and operation of UAVs and space systems (e.g. RLV re-entry tests), the
Esrange portion of the Neat, near the town of Kiruna, played host to the
Israel Aircraft Industries/Eads Eagle (photo) in early Summer 2002
during the country's UAV 2002 testing programme. The project is
aimed at assessing whether Sweden has a requirement for UAVs in its
national defence programme. (Armada/JK)
