EXTENSION TECHNOLGY TO DEMONSTRATE ECONOMICAL REMOTE LAN NETWORKING AT INTEROP

FRAMINGHAM, Mass., Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Extension Technology Corp. announced it will demonstrate fractional T1 performance using Basic Rate ISDN digital telephone service at the INTEROP trade show on Aug. 25-27 in San Francisco. Extension Technology's Long Distance LAN(a) products will be used to connect five locations to form a coast to coast LAN network.
The demonstration ISDN network will link Novell networks in the trade show booths of Extension Technology, Novell, and Pacific Bell, and will extend to Extension Technology locations in Massachusetts and Mountain View, Calif. Each network location will include Extension Technology's LD-LAN(a) Adapter installed within Novell MultiProtocol Routers, servers, and workstations. Three carriers will provide the ISDN service, including Pacific Bell which will provide their Switched Digital Service IS (Integrated Systems) service at the trade show and in Mountain View.
The demonstration network will allow attendees to experience LD-LAN's fractional T1 performance using ISDN, effectively linking remote offices and telecommuters into a single LAN segment and reducing traditional internetworking costs. LD-LAN Adapters utilize Extension Technology's compression and Suspend/Resume(a) technologies to automatically deliver fractional T1 performance on as "as needed" basis. LD-LAN "virtualizes" circuits during periods of inactivity, so the end user appears to have a full time leased line while the company pays only for economical switched digital services.
The demonstration network will be located in the North Hall of the INTEROP trade show floor, at Extension Technology's booth 6744, Novell's booth 6152, and Pacific Bell's booth 5176.
