EXPLOSIVE CLIMAX; ECHO goes behind scenes for Barry's bigHollyoaks storyline.
THERE is never a dull working day for Liverpool actor Barry Sloane.
As Hollyoaks villain Niall Rafferty, he has carried out violent andmanipulative acts against the McQueen family, killed off one of the show's most iconic characters, Max Cunningham, andmurdered a priest.
But fans of the hit Mersey soap haven't seen anything yet as Niall's revenge reaches a dramatic climax tonight and tomorrow.
Niall kidnaps the whole McQueen clan including his mother Myra (Nicole Barber-Lane), who abandoned him in a church when he was a baby.
The ECHO went behind the scenes at Childwall's Lime Pictures site and St Joseph's College in Upholland, Skelmersdale.
The 26-year-old from Garston said: "Niall will stop at nothing to cause pain toMyra's family. I quite like him butmy sister is scared of him."
Barry, who played Sean Smith in Channel 4 soap, Brookside, joined Hollyoaks as Myra's secret first-born child in October 2007.
He said: "It's been unbelievable to be part of such a big storyline."
In an ironic twist to the storyline, Niall takes the family to an abandoned church and blows it up with the McQueens inside. One of his sisters - Carmel (Gemma Merna), Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe), Tina (Leah Hackett), Michaela (Hollie-Jay Bowes) or Jacqui (Claire Cooper) - will not make it out alive.
Speaking in his Scouse accent which he disguises for the role, Barry said: "The scenes when the bomb goes off and the McQueens are inside the church are brilliant.
"We had stunt men so I got off lightly - apart from swallowing loads of dust.
"Niall asks Myra six questions to choose which of her children lives and dies, it's very dark."
The former New Heyes pupil said it is some of the bestmaterial he's done and it has won him a Most Popular Newcomer nomination at the National Television Awards.
