PALMDALE - Early rock 'n' roll rock 'n' roll: see rock music. , says John Goines, was a new form of communication: understandable to teenagers but not to their parents.

``I just think that we underestimate the power of what we created over here. One of the top five creations for this country is rock 'n' roll. There's nothing more duplicated than rock 'n' roll.''

To Goines, the first rock 'n' roll recording put out by the music industry was ``Shake, Rattle and Roll,'' recorded in 1954 by Big Joe Turner

Goines plays drums and keyboard and sings. He has lived in Palmdale for 11 years but works in Valencia as the operations manager for Dick Clark's archives, managing television and movie sets, memorabilia and contracts.

Originally from New Orleans, Goines has been married for 30 years to his wife, Pat, and they have two grown sons.

``I used to pass through Palmdale and say, What did these people do to God to make him put them here, and now I'm living here and I love it,'' said Goines, who also coaches youth sports and has a music program in local schools called ``Blues in the Schools'' through which he raises money to buy musical instruments.
