LANCASTER - In a step toward preparing for a $139 million November bond measure, supporters of Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. It is operated by the Antelope Valley Community College District, with a primary service area of 1,945 square miles covering portions of Los Angeles and Kern counties.  will hire a consultant who worked on two successful school bond campaigns in the high desert.

Friends of Antelope Valley College, a committee formed to push for the bond, is hiring political consultant Chris Jones to help guide the campaign. Jones worked on successful recent bond campaigns for Palmdale School District The Palmdale School District is a school district that serves a major part of the city of Palmdale, California (USA).

Jones will be paid $30,000 for his work. The will come from the campaign, not from the college, Standerfer said.

After initially looking at the March primary, college officials opted to hold off until the November election to put the $139 million bond measure before voters. Supporters of the bond said more time was needed to properly prepare their case to earn public support.

AVC officials say the bond funding is needed to update the aging Lancaster campus and to start the proposed Palmdale campus. College officials are seeking bond funding to supplement state revenue that officials hope to get toward 35 projects, totaling $368.5 million, to accommodate rapidly increasing enrollment.

College district enrollment is expected to double to more than 26,000 students by 2020. College officials said Lancaster facilities are aging, and the campus lacks lab, library and office space.

The college also needs about 500 parking spaces.

The bond issue would help establish a Palmdale campus at an initial cost of about $38 million, including $16.2 million in locally raised revenue.

The Palmdale campus would be part of the 540-acre College Park housing development proposed south of Barrel Springs Road between 37th and 47th streets east.
