EXPANSION OF ARA SENIOR MANAGEMENT TEAM POSITIONS COMPANY FOR CONTINUED GROWTH

PHILADELPHIA, May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Joseph Neubauer, chairman and chief executive officer of ARA Services, announced today the expansion of the company's senior management team and resulting promotion of three executives.
Neubauer said these changes are an important part of ARA's strategic efforts to capitalize on the tremendous opportunities that are emerging in today's service management industry. In addition, the moves are designed to further strengthen ARA's leadership role both in the United States and the international marketplace.
-- John R. Farquharson, 54, was named to the new position of chairman, ARA Global Food Services. He was president of ARA's domestic food service operations since 1979 and is one of the most respected men in the industry.
-- William Leonard, 45, was named president of ARA's domestic food service operations. Previously, he was president, Uniform Services, ARA's uniform and textile rental group, which is the largest in the country.
-- L. Frederick Sutherland, 41, was named president of Uniform Services and executive vice president of ARA. Previously, he was senior vice president, Finance and Corporate Development. Sutherland is highly regarded by the national financial community.
Neubauer said Farquharson will coordinate all food service operations worldwide. In addition, he will continue to play a leadership role in industry and trade association activities. Farquharson joined ARA as an assistant food service manager upon graduation from the University of Denver in 1960 and he worked in just about every capacity, at every level of the company before being named president of ARA's domestic food service operations in 1979. ARA's domestic food service operations currently have about 53,000 employees and 1993 revenues are expected to approach $2 billion.
According to Neubauer, Leonard will bring his well developed focus on client retention, sales and marketing to ARA's food service businesses. Leonard left the Hertz Corporation to join ARA in 1982. In 1984, he was named president of ARATEX, which he developed into the nation's largest and most preferred uniform service company. In 1992, Leonard was named president of ARA's Uniform Services Group, which includes ARATEX and WearGuard, the nation's largest direct marketer of uniforms and work apparel. The Uniform Service Group has about 11,500 employees and 1993 revenues are expected to total more than $700 million.
Sutherland, Neubauer said, joined ARA in 1980 as the assistant treasurer and very quickly rose through the ranks. He was named treasurer in 1983, vice president and treasurer in 1985 and senior v.p. for Corporate Finance and Development in 1987. The former Chase Manhattan Bank vice president quickly gained and continues to retain the respect of the financial community across the country.
ARA Services is a privately held, international, diversified service management company with nearly $5 billion in annual sales. The company is one of the largest employers in the United States with services ranging from food service and uniform services to health care, child care, and magazine and book distribution.
