EXPANDED USAIR EXPRESS SCHEDULES: NEW PITTSBURGH FLIGHTS SET FOR MAY 1

 EXPANDED USAIR EXPRESS SCHEDULES:
NEW PITTSBURGH FLIGHTS SET FOR MAY 1
ONEIDA COUNTY AIRPORT, N.Y., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- USAir will replace three daily jet flights to Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) with four new USAir Express flights, two to BWI and two to Pittsburgh, beginning May. 1
Rep. Sherwood L. Boehlert (R-N.Y.) said he was pleased that USAir has responded positively to his requests for new service to Pittsburgh. "With nearly 500 USAir and USAir Express flights daily, Pittsburgh offers a wealth of new connecting opportunities for Oneida County air travelers," he said. "Having service to two USAir hubs is a real plus."
New USAir Express flights, operated by USAir Group subsidiary Pennsylvania Airlines, will be flown with 37-seat DeHavilland Dash 8 jet-prop aircraft. They will depart daily to BWI at 6:50 a.m. and 5:40 p.m. and arrive at 8:10 a.m. and 7 p.m. New Pittsburgh flights will leave here at 7:30 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. and arrive at 9 a.m. and 5:05 p.m.
New USAir Express flights will leave BWI at 4 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. and arrive here at 5:20 p.m. and 8:59 p.m. Flights will leave Pittsburgh at 2 p.m. and 9:35 p.m. and arrive here at 3:25 p.m. and 11 p.m.
USAir said service with 63-seat F-28 jet aircraft will be discontinued in favor of the expanded USAir Express schedules because traffic volumes do not support the larger aircraft.
Both BWI and Pittsburgh are major USAir hubs and offer connections to USAir and USAir Express flights to many other cities throughout the United States as well as several foreign destinations.
For example, the morning flight to Pittsburgh will connect with USAir flights to 46 other cities and the afternoon flight to 44 cities, including Frankfurt, Germany. USAir also plans to begin daily flights between BWI and London Gatwick Airport later this year.
Additional USAir Express flights operated by Commutair will continue to link Oneida County Airport with Burlington, Syracuse and Newark.
As a result of the Oneida County schedule realignment, five USAir maintenance employees and eight fulltime customer service employees will be given the opportunity to transfer to other locations in the USAir system.
