This amount is calculated by subtracting the following items from gross sales: merchandise returned for credit, allowances for damaged or missing goods, freight
 for the first quarter of fiscal 1996 increased 162% to $432,320,000 from $165,067,000 for the same period last year. Fiscal 1996's first quarter loss was $14,678,000 or $0.74 loss per share compared to a loss of $41,000 or $0.00 per share in fiscal 1995.
