EXECUTIVE APPOINTED TO DIRECT CIRCULATION.Byline: Daily News Jack D. Klunder, a veteran Southern California newspaper circulation executive, has been named vice president, circulation for the Los Angeles Newspaper Group The Los Angeles Newspaper Group is an umbrella group of local daily newspapers published in the greater Los Angeles area by MediaNews Group. The appointment was announced Monday by Ike Massey, group president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. and publisher of the Daily News. Klunder, 43, was director of circulation for the Los Angeles Times Los Angeles Times Morning daily newspaper. Established in 1881, it was purchased and incorporated in 1884 by Harrison Gray Otis (1837–1917) under The Times-Mirror Co. (the hyphen was later dropped from the name). from 1988 to 1996. From 1975 to 1987 he held an assortment of key circulation jobs at the newspaper. In 1997, he became a founding partner in Equant Marketing Group, LLP, in Aurora, Colo. Equant is a call-servicing center for retailers, banks and newspapers. In announcing the appointment, Massey said, ``With the addition of Jack Klunder, we now have a team of highly experienced executives to lead LANG into the 21st century and further solidify our position in this dynamic marketplace. ``As a former Times executive, Jack knows the L.A. market extremely well and brings a track record of success to our group.'' Klunder replaces Ron Wood, who recently became publisher of the San Gabriel Valley The San Gabriel Valley is one of the principal valleys of southern California. It lies to the east of the city of Los Angeles, to the north of the Puente Hills, to the south of the San Gabriel Mountains, and to the west of the Inland Empire. Newspaper Group, which is part of LANG's nine L.A.-area dailies. Klunder will be responsible for coordinating managerial oversight for the circulation departments of LANG's nine dailies. He also will be responsible for strategic planning, marketing and promotions, and the financial performance of the entire circulation division. While at the Times, Klunder was a key executive in leading the newspaper to record levels of circulation that resulted in it becoming the largest metropolitan newspaper in the country. A native of Southern California, Klunder received a bachelor's degree in business management from Pepperdine University in 1981.
