EX-MOORPARK MAYOR FOUND DEAD IN INDIO : RECALL ELECTION ENDED TERM AS COUNCILMAN.

Former Moorpark City Councilman and Mayor Thomas ``Bud'' Ferguson - who was recalled from office in 1987 - was found dead Monday in the RV park where he was staying in Indio, according to according to

Ferguson died of natural causes. He was 77.

An Oklahoma native, Ferguson was elected to the Moorpark City Council in 1984.

In 1987, he issued a public apology apology [Gr.,=defense], literary work that defends, justifies, or clarifies an author's ideas or point of view. Unlike the ordinary use of the word, the literary use neither implies that wrong has been done nor expresses regret.  for making racial slurs quoted in a local newspaper and resigned as mayor.

The racial slurs appeared in the first of a two-part series of articles on Ferguson published in the wake of the scandal over the mayor's arranging of loans to former Councilman Danny Woolard.

Woolard resigned in January 1987 after confessing that he had embezzled em·bez·zle

 $5,500 from his post office job to finance a cocaine habit. Several Moorpark residents had launched a petition campaign to recall Ferguson after revelations by Woolard accusing Ferguson of bribing him to influence votes.

Woolard's allegations against Ferguson were investigated by the Ventura County District Attorney's Office, but Ferguson was never charged.

Ferguson was recalled from office in 1987 by a 73.2 percent majority after Woolard's resignation.

Ferguson, a retiree suffering from leukemia leukemia (lkē`mēə), cancerous disorder of the blood-forming tissues (bone marrow, lymphatics, liver, spleen) characterized by excessive production of immature or mature , remained in Moorpark until May 1987, when he moved out of the home he was renting on Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Avenue and bought a trailer to travel.
