EVN INTERIM RESULTS - POSITIVE TREND

VIENNA, Austria, April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Energie-Versorgung Niederosterreich ("EVN"), one of Austria's largest public utility companies, today made a preliminary announcement concerning their interim results for the six months ended Feb. 28, 1993.
EVN's interim results, which will be announced in detail on Monday, April 26, 1993, show quite satisfactory development in all business areas during the first six months of the 1992/93 financial year (Sept. 1, 1992 -- Feb. 28, 1993).
Despite the overall economic slowdown in Austria in the first half of EVN's financial year, the result from ordinary activities improved by 12.1 percent compared with the corresponding period in the previous year. This positive development was primarily due to growth in sales in all three areas of electricity, gas and heat. The total increase in sales revenues amounted to 4.7 percent compared to the same period in 1991/92. Electricity sales revenues rose 3.4 percent, gas revenues 6.3 percent and heat revenues 15 percent, primarily due to the low temperatures in the period under review and to the continued rapid expansion of the gas and heat supply networks. Because of the importance of seasonal variations in the energy business one cannot simply extrapolate a future trend from the results. However, EVN's positive performance in the first six months of the 1992/93 financial year, does provide a solid base for the final results covering the entire financial year.
Following the detailed results announcement next Monday, accompanied by a presentation in Vienna, EVN will be making presentations to the investment community in the U.S. the week of May 10.
