EVERGREEN SELECTS TEXTMACHINE FOR INDUSTRY'S FIRST INTERACTIVE ON-LINE PUBLISHING PACKAGE FOR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Evergreen Information Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: EVRG; PSE), based in McLean, Va., has selected Alliance Technologies' TEXTMACHINE as the text search software for PowerTree, Evergreen's on-line information service which is planned to be the first interactive computer database containing the mandated information needed to make or buy products for, or sell products to the federal government.
The contract calls for Alliance to provide Evergreen with TEXTMACHINE, the industry's first true open system, client/server- based technology for comprehensive text search and retrieval. Specifically, by implementing TEXTMACHINE, Evergreen will give the users of the on-line PowerTree system the ability to achieve new levels of accuracy in searching textual documents.
TEXTMACHINE will also provide Evergreen the ability to programmatically extract information from unstructured full-text to seed the relational DBMS software, Informix, which is also being used in the PowerTree on-line service.
In making the announcement, Barry Nelsen, president of Evergreen, stated: "After evaluating numerous text vendors, we selected Alliance because of the company's extensive expertise and their ability to enhance our product capabilities with a new level of precision. TEXTMACHINE is the only text retrieval product in the market which offers parallel and distributed processing on multiple servers and clients."
"We are very pleased to help Evergreen expand their product offering and reduce their development costs," said Michael Fleischhauer, chairman and CEO of Alliance. "Our advanced tokenization and markup capabilities are just two of the unique features which are opening up new applications and opportunities for managing very large and diverse collections of information."
TEXTMACHINE represents a true innovation and significant advancement in full-text search and retrieval software. The UNIX- based product is a comprehensive suite of tools and utilities which enables companies and institutions to build systems to collect, prepare, load, access, monitor and manage multiple gigabytes to terabytes of textual data. The development of TEXTMACHINE was directed by Rodger Miller, Ph.D., formerly the chief consulting scientist of Mead Data Central, creators of LEXIS and NEXIS.
The Evergreen PowerTree system will enable a vendor or agency to search for information from a single data source. Prior to PowerTree, vendors or agencies were required to search multiple hard copy and microfiche sources for the necessary information.
Alliance Technologies, Inc., designs and builds distributed full- text database products. The company also provides consulting services and customized applications for a wide variety of markets. Based in Austin, the privately held company was founded in 1990 by some of the industry's leading text experts.
