 IN JAPANESE CLINICAL TESTS
Japanese Physicians Present Results at Major Symposium in Yokohama
MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Clinical tests of proprietary bipolar electrosurgical products manufactured by Everest Medical Corporation (NASDAQ: EVMD) showed the equipment to be effective, safer than competing technologies and easier for the physician to use, Japanese physicians reported to a major international medical symposium in Japan last week. The symposium focused on new technologies in the treatment of gastrointestinal disease.
Five separate clinical studies of the use of Everest Medical bipolar technology were presented at the symposium, held in Yokohama in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Japan Medical Society of Gastroenterology. The symposium was chaired by Professor Suzuki of Tokyo Women's Hospital and Professor Hajiro of Tenri Yorozu University in Nara, Japan and attended by more than 500 Japanese, European and American physicians.
"The good success of our products in the Japan clinical studies and the surprisingly strong interest shown by so many physicians gives us confidence as we release these products for distribution to all of the Japan market," said Michael Hollenhorst, chairman, president and CEO of Everest Medical and an observer at the Yokohama meeting.
Everest Medical bipolar products have been in limited distribution in Japan for one year, but have not been fully distributed pending the completion of the studies presented last week. Hollenhorst declined to speculate on the total impact on future revenues, but acknowledged that the strong interest shown by the attendees has caused him to increase his estimates of future sales in Japan.
Minneapolis-based Everest Medical Corporation, which became public in December, 1990, is a manufacturer of bipolar electrosurgical products for the endoscopic and laparoscopic markets.
