LAKE LOS ANGELES Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  - A ceremony recognized the formation of the 452nd Flight Test Squadron's Detachment 1 at the Gray Buttes-El Mirage test facility on Jan 12.

Detachment 1, under the command of Maj. Fred Bivetto, will provide development test and evaluation for the Predator A and B unmanned aircraft Unmanned Aircraft (UA) is a term used in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) definition of Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS). UA refers to the aircraft portion of the system required to operate it, also known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. .

Detachment 1, in operation since June 2005 and officially activated on Nov. 9, is a combined test force comprised of seven permanently assigned personnel as well as personnel from the Predator Systems Squadron at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, the Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation (testing) operational test and evaluation - (OT&E) Formal testing conducted prior to deployment to evaluate the operational effectiveness and suitability of the system with respect to its mission.  Center's Detachment 5, the 31st Test and Evaluation Squadron and contractors from General Atomics in Rancho Bernardo.

The Predator A is an armed version of the RQ-1 Predator, originally designed as an unmanned surveillance and reconnaissance plane. The Predator A can attack targets on the ground as well as do reconnaissance. It can stay airborne for more than 24 hours with a 450-pound payload.

The larger, faster Predator B can carry 3,000 pounds of weapons and contains a more powerful radar than the A model. It can stay aloft for 32 hours at altitudes above 50,000 feet, more than twice as high as the A model.
