EU sets RoHS max. concentration levels.
Brussels -- The European Union European Union (EU), name given since the ratification (Nov., 1993) of the Treaty of European Union, or Maastricht Treaty, to the
European Community has set forth the maximum
concentration values for materials restricted under the pending RoHS
directive.
The EC established a maximum concentration value of 0.1 % by weight
in homogeneous materials for lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium,
polybrominated biphenyls (PBB PBB: see polybrominated biphenyl. ) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers Polybrominated diphenyl ethers or PBDE, are a flame retardant sub-family of the brominated flame retardant group. They have been used in a wide array of household products, including fabrics, furniture, and electronics. (PBDE PBDE Polybrominated Diphenyl Ether PBDE Pentabromodiphenyl Ether (flame retardant additive in plastics) PBDE Parallel Block-Decodable Encoder ).
It further set a limit of 0.01% by weight in homogeneous materials
for cadmium. This decision is effective July 1, 2006.
