, Inc.), a global provider of data integration solutions, recently provided Metals USA with instant access to vital financial data stored in their legacy ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) An integrated information system that serves all departments within an enterprise. Evolving out of the manufacturing industry, ERP implies the use of packaged software rather than proprietary software written by or for one customer.  systems using ETI Built-to-Order (BTO) Connectors[TM]. ETI also helped Metals USA leverage their investment in Microsoft SQL Server A relational DBMS from Microsoft that is a major component of the Windows Server System. It is Microsoft's high-end client/server database and is closely integrated with Microsoft Visual Studio and the Microsoft Office System.  2005 by providing high performance connectivity to the financial data stored in their legacy systems. The ETI BTO Connector[TM] was generated for Metals USA specific source schemas, transformations and production environment; all with a fixed-price guarantee. ETI BTO Connectors eliminate traditional barriers to integration success by enabling legacy information for composite applications while leveraging open architecture standards and SaaS principles.

In an effort to increase their business agility and make more informed business decisions quickly, Metals USA required a virtual "close of the books" at any given time. To facilitate this, Metals USA required that their Financial Data Warehouse, built on a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 BI Platform, have high performance connectivity to legacy data residing in COBOL/ISAM files as well as several databases residing on Unix-based servers. The company also faced the challenge of having over 80 manufacturing or distribution facilities across the country, each with its own profit center, supported by a number of ERP systems and underlying databases. Now the customer can report up to date vital financial and operating information via their SQL Server 2005 BI infrastructure.

of Metals USA explained that their specific ERP system which is feature rich to accommodate the wide variety of services provided to customers is restrictive in its data mining capabilities. "The ability to extract a significant amount of data from that ERP system on a daily basis was therefore essential. An ETI BTO Connector was the perfect answer to build a Data Warehouse that is easily accessed by financial and accounting personnel."

"SQL Server 2005 delivers an enterprise-ready business intelligence platform which enables companies such as Metals USA to make faster, better-informed mission-critical decisions," said Tom Casey, general manager of SQL Server at Microsoft Corp. "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and the 2007 Microsoft Office system combine to give customers a powerful, end-to-end solution for bringing business insight to every worker in the organization, from the boiler room to the board room, leveraging all the organization's existing data."

ETI BTO Connectors provide high performance data movement and complex transformation capabilities based on individual customer needs. ETI BTO Connectors complement SQL Server 2005 by eliminating the hand coding required to access legacy data. ETI BTO Connectors provide data integration to virtually any data source including mainframes, data warehouses, file systems, legacy databases, proprietary applications, SaaS applications, message buses and web services.

"Metals USA is a great example of how ETI BTO rapidly integrates legacy data as organizations analyze information through their business intelligence platforms," said ETI president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "BTO integration is the easiest and most cost effective offering for the thousands of SQL Server users as they migrate and integrate data from legacy systems."
