:ELST ELST East Lake Sammamish Trail (Washington) ), a manufacturer of wireless communications hardware, today announced the Company's new product, the ESTeem(TM) 192E, has been granted type acceptance by the Federal Communication Commission (FCC (1) (Federal Communications Commission, Washington, DC, www.fcc.gov) The U.S. government agency that regulates interstate and international communications including wire, cable, radio, TV and satellite. The FCC was created under the U.S. ) effective October 17, 2001.

The ESTeem 192E had previously been granted type acceptance in Canada as of June 12, 2001.

The ESTeem Model 192E and companion Wireless LAN Card are based on the wireless networking IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, www.ieee.org) A membership organization that includes engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields.  802.11b standard, but specifically designed for harsh industrial environments. The Ethernet interface has fast become the standard for industrial control applications, as it has for computer Local Area Networks (LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used. ). The Model 192E can supply industrial control products and computer networks with the advantages of a wireless network at true Ethernet speeds. The flexibility, ease of installation and mobility of wireless communication can solve many of the problems faced during the modernization of industrial plants to Ethernet based protocols and the rapidly changing and expanding modern computer networks.

Both ESTeem Ethernet products can provide a direct replacement for a hardwired Ethernet LAN for inter-office and building-to-building communications to reduce cable and installation costs. The typical return on investment for the ESTeem LAN is 6 months to 2 years depending on the application. After the initial investment there is no reoccurring costs to move the LAN users within the wireless infrastructure.

The ESTeem Ethernet products use unlicensed 2.4 GHz, direct sequence spread spectrum technology, to provide data rates to 11 Mbps. The two package formats available are the Model 192E, an industrial panel mount case, with RJ-45 10baseT interface, for ranges over 5 miles and a short range wireless PC card, in PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association, San Jose, CA, www.pcmcia.org) An international standards body and trade association that was founded in 1989 to establish a standard for connecting peripherals to portable computers. The Model 192E has a one watt RF output power and internal digi-repeating capability for routing of data to overcome line-of-sight blockages and to extend the typical line-of-sight range. The Model 192E also includes an RS-232C communications port to allow the user to perform local and remote programming and diagnostic functions to other units on the radio network.
