ESSEX CORPORATION REPORTS $1.1 MILLION NAVY CONTRACT

 COLUMBIA, Md., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Essex Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: ESEX) reports exercise of the $1.1 million third (FY94) option of its U.S. Navy contract for software maintenance and enhancement. This five-year maintenance planning, scheduling, evaluation and assessment program is performed by its units in Portsmouth, N.H., and Mechanicsburg, Pa. The company also reported award of $59,000 for additional work on U.S. Navy programs.
 Harry Letaw, chairman and CEO of Essex, stated: "We are pleased to continue our 15-year effort in integrated logistic support and engineering for the submarine community. Prompt exercise of this option during difficult times speaks well for the excellence of our services. We anticipate that the two remaining options in this $5 million contract will be timely exercised as a result of the continuing quality effort by our experienced team. The skills that they represent are applicable to industrial maintenance programs, a field that we are working to penetrate."
